The Bowdoin College Museum of Art exhibition Along the Yangzi River: Regional Culture of the Bronze Age from Hunan — called “a thrilling time” by the Portland Press Herald — is a collection of 60 bronze vessels and monumental bells from southern China. As Museum Curator Joachim Homann explains, visitors have an extremely rare opportunity for what he calls a spellbinding and transcendent experience.

President Barry Mills delivered the eulogy at a memorial service held Friday at Brunswick’s First Parish Church for A. LeRoy Greason, who devoted 38 years to the College as a professor, dean and president. Greason died August 30, 2011; he was 88.

Bowdoin Opens Academic Year with 210th Convocation

 

The College’s annual Convocation ceremony, marking the official opening of the 210th academic year, was held Wednesday in Pickard Theater, Memorial Hall.

President Mills addressed technology’s role in the transformation of education, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience Rick Thompson spoke of  the pursuit of passions in this address, “The Quail  Debates,” and Dean Tim Foster borrowed from the pages of Bowdoin’s history for his talk, “Voices from Bowdoin’s Past.”

 

Farewell to a Bowdoin Friend: Remembering A. LeRoy Greason

A. LeRoy Greason

A. LeRoy Greason Jr., a dedicated educator and gifted leader who devoted 38 years to Bowdoin as a professor, dean and president, died over the weekend at the age of 88. In a letter to the Bowdoin community, President Mills writes of Greason’s impact on the College and his lasting legacy.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 2, at 10:30 a.m. at First Parish Church in Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Bowdoin College, 4100 College Station, Brunswick, Maine 04011, or to another of the organizations that Roy Greason supported with his time, talents, and resources.
