Bowdoin’s endowment created a bit of a buzz in financial circles when it was announced that it had surpassed $1 billion for the first time — and on an investment return of 16%.

Institutional Investor magazine has taken note, nominating Bowdoin for Endowment of the Year in the magazine’s 12th Annual Hedge Fund Industry Awards, which recognize the hedge fund investors, managers and consultants who stood out for their innovation, achievements and contributions to the industry in 2013. Bowdoin is nominated along with the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Richmond and Williams College. The awards will be announced June 26, 2014, at a ceremony in New York City.

President Mills provides some answers about the endowment in “Endowment 101,” which first appeared in Mills’ regular “Answers” section of Bowdoin Magazine’s Fall 2013 issue.
