Today marks the 28th anniversary of the explosion and meltdown at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant located just 80 miles north of Kiev in Ukraine. Nearly three decades later—amid rising political and military tensions in the region that could derail ongoing cleanup efforts—the affects of the disaster are still felt on the population, the food chain, and the landscape.
