New research shows the effects of studying abroad go beyond cultural understanding and foreign language skills; the experience is also said to have a positive impact on personality. Students who studied abroad scored higher than those who had not in the “Big Five” major personality areas: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness.
