Cohen publishes his own journal, Comments on Etymology, in which for four decades he has uncovered the stories behind words and phrases, from “shyster to the Big Apple, from hot dog to hamentaschen, from gung ho to jazz.” The origin of shyster alone took him seven years to track down.
