Navy Women’s Basketball, with Ties to Bowdoin, Keeps Winning (Navy Sports)

Stefanie Pemper

Navy women’s basketball Head Coach Stefanie Pemper — former head coach of Bowdoin women’s basketball for 10 seasons — is leading the Navy women to hoops glory. Last weekend, Pemper’s squad won its third consecutive Patriot League basketball title when it beat Holy Cross. On Sunday, it will play Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Two alumnae, Alison Smith Montgomery ’05 and Maria Noucas ’09, are the Navy team’s assistant coaches.

At Bowdoin, Pemper established the Polar Bears as one of the premier Division III programs in the nation. “The most successful coach in Bowdoin women’s basketball history, Pemper led the squad to NCAA bids in nine of her 10 seasons, including an incredible six-year stretch from 2002-07,” according to D3Hoops.
