Maine Chef is Finalist for James Beard Award (Portland Press Herald)

Melissa Kelly, the chef/owner of Primo restaurant in Rockland, has been named a finalist for the prestigious James Beard award for Best Chef: Northeast. Kelly grows vegetables and fruits on Primo’s four-acre property and raises pigs, chickens, guinea hens, ducks and bees for her restaurant.

Kelly is the only nominee from Maine this year, the Portland Press Herald reports. Krista Kern Desjaralis, chef/owner of Bresca in Portland, and Brian Hill, chef/owner of Francine Bistro in Camden, were semifinalists but did not make the final cut.
