Pot Growing Industry Hurting California Landscape (Mother Jones)

In Northern California’s Humboldt County, cannabis accounts for possibly more than a quarter of Humboldt County’s $1.6 billion economy, reports Mother Jones. And this share is likely to increase with the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Washington State. “But the pot economy’s need for land and water has sparked a whole new wave of environmental problems,” the magazine says, a wave that is not helped by the lack of government regulation around this crop.
