The Bowdoin Polar Bear is in New York City commemorating the 100th anniversary of its status as the official College mascot.

Our furry friend began the day by helping to share the news with the Today show’s estimated 4.5 million viewers.

A gaggle of local alumni trekked to Rockefeller Plaza outside the NBC show’s studios and got a chance shortly after 8 a.m. to speak with Today show weatherman Al Roker, telling him that the Polar Bear was adopted as Bowdoin’s mascot January 18, 1913, during a meeting of the Alumni Association, which took place in what was then the Sherman Square Hotel on New York’s Upper West Side.
