Online Network Seeks to Connect Neighbors (Slate)

Another social media network is attempting to break into the online socializing world. But this time, the site wants to strengthen real-life connections rather than electronic versions of them. Nextdoor offers a shared, private space for communities of 75 or more households to discuss local issues, get plumber recommendations or cover other small-town topics. All of the current 6,500 networks set up already were launched by “regular folks who sought a way to connect with their neighbors, but didn’t want to ring doorbells or make small talk in the elevator,” Slate reports.
