Slideshow: Splashes of Color Brighten Smith Union at Annual Craft Fair

‪‬The 17th annual Sunsplash Craft Fair this year offered something new, on top of all the handmade scarves, wood bowls, jams, jewelry and quilts for sale. The all-day fair, held Friday in Smith Union, culminated in a “Happy Hour” at the pub, with live music from The Big Chips Trio and free pizza, wings and popcorn for craft vendors and Bowdoin staff, faculty and students.

Bonnie Pardue, manager of the Bowdoin Craft Center and administrative coordinator for Student Activities, organizes Sunsplash every year. This time, the fair included 66 vendors, and had a waiting list of between 40 and 50 more. The fair was first held in 1995 when Smith Union was reopened after being renovated, and was named Sunsplash “to get some sun splashing in here,” Pardue explained. “We try to bring in sunshine in the winter.”
