Commemorating Civil War Sesquicentennial with Special Collections Blog, Alumni College

Commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.

The College has selected 2013 as the year to commemorate the American Civil War’s sesquicentennial with a host of programs, panels and exhibitions. The George J. Mitchell Department of Special Collections & Archives will debut its blog On This Day in Civil War History… January 1, 2013. Deriving from the historical resources in Special Collections, the blog will serve as a daily reminder of what occurred 150 years ago — from the horrific to the mundane, comprising passages from letters, journals and other writings.

”The Afterlife of the American Civil War,” an Alumni College series scheduled August 8-11, 2013, will feature keynote speakers, talks by Bowdoin faculty and walking tours of historic Brunswick.

Stay tuned to the Bowdoin Daily Sun for details on the Alumni College series and the launch of the blog, On This Day in  Civil War History…
