There’s Hope for Allergic Cat Lovers (Nature)

Scientists in the United Kingdom have developed a new cat allergy vaccine that has proven effective on people in an initial trial, according to the blog Spoonful of Medicine.

The vaccine appeared to reduce nose- and eye-related symptoms in the 21 people who were treated with the medicine and exposed to cat dander, which are microscopic pieces of dry cat skin coated with a protein responsible for most cat allergies. An estimated 17% of people in the United States are allergic to cats.
