Why So Much Meat Tastes Like Chicken (Slate)

Chickens are thought to be descended from dinosaurs (which may or may not have tasted like chicken). But the flavor of chicken meat may go back even further, to roughly 350 million years ago. That’s when the descendants of the lobed fish — the link between sea animals and land animals — left the sea after evolving into the first terrestrial amphibians, according to Slate. Eventually, an early group of amphibians branched off into birds, as well as frogs, lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises — many of which which supposedly taste like chicken.
