MassChallenge, a non-profit started by John Harthorne ’95 to promote entrepreneurship and new business, awarded more than $1 million in grants during an awards dinner Tuesday night in Boston.

The winning companies had been working with the organization for four months to hone their business ideas and take advantage of the resources (legal counsel, mentorship, networking, etc.) MassChallenge offers.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick spoke, and Gerald Chertavian ’87 gave a keynote address on entrepreneurship. Shoe designer Ruthie Davis ’84 provided some of her creations for a raffle.
