Kristen Cameron ’08 Subject of Special Feature by Kaitee Daley ’09 (ESPN)

Kristen Cameron '08

The inspirational story of Kristen Cameron ’08, the former women’s ice hockey team standout and Mercyhurst College assistant hockey coach who was left partially paralyzed after a drunken driver hit her while she was biking, is the latest ESPN Journeys & Victories feature — and was written by  ESPN.com editor Kaitee Daley ’09.

Daley chronicles the accident and Cameron’s impressive efforts along her journey to once again be part of the sport she loves.

“There are so many people that I don’t even know that help out,” says Cameron in the piece. ”Those people, from what I’m told, all think that I inspire them and to me, if I inspire them, that’s what motivates me to keep working.”

“Bowdoin’s athletic community is tight-knit and incredibly supportive,” says Daley. “So many of Kristen’s teammates and friends have stepped up to help out and I’m just happy I could use my platform at ESPN and passion for journalism to make people outside of Bowdoin aware of just how special she is.”

Wayback Wednesday: Orient’s ‘College Notes’ a Precursor to Facebook?

Wayback Wednesday is a popular feature that began on Bowdoin’s Facebook page in 2011. Today’s challenge: Guess the year these College Notes were published in the Bowdoin Orient. (Class years have been hidden so as not to give away the answer.) Each one is part of a column in a single issue of the Orient — perhaps a precursor to the modern day Facebook. Scroll below for the answer.

The correct answer is: The Bowdoin Orient, Vol. XXXVI, No. 2, published on April 27, 1906.
