One Cool Thing: Holographic Anime Rockstar Miku Hatsune

Bowdoin Chief Information Officer Mitch Davis offers a look at news and trends in technology, gadgets, inventions or just something worth checking out. It’s called “One Cool Thing.”

3D digital and IMAX movies are creating some entertaining audience immersive effects. If you saw either “Avatar” or “Alice” in one of these theaters you’ll know what I’m talking about. Very soon your children might be asking to attend a concert where the music is live but the star performer is virtual and represented as a CGI 3D Hologram on stage. Miku Hatsune is an Anime Avatar rockstar that is playing to sold-out concerts in Japan. The technology behind this performance is relatively new and developing fast. Her voice was created using Yamaha’s Vocaloid voice synthesizer. The avatar was developed by Crypton Media.

Hi….had my 10 year old granddaughter watch the performance. She wasn’t too interested. Didn’t watch the whole performance. She said Miku is a doll like Barbie.
By the way, my granddaughter is knowledgeable about current music courtesy of her Dad.
