Each week, Bowdoin Chief Information Officer Mitch Davis offers a look at news and trends in technology, gadgets, inventions, or just something worth checking out. It’s called “One Cool Thing.”
If you have never seen the detail of gigapixel photography then look at this great virtual tour of Paris. Zoom in and see what you can find?
If you ever wanted to take your own gigapixel photos there is new and very cool solution that brings the resolution of these photos down to a price almost anyone who loves photography can afford. I don’t have one yet but I just may get one and spend some time taking pictures this summer around Maine!

Thanks! this was cool beyond belief.
Incredible. As a former Orient photographer who spent hours in the darkroom of Moulton Union’s basement, I am constantly amazed by new digital technology. Long ago, I would physically match, cut and paste photographs for panoramic shots in Tokyo or Jerusalem. Now all you need is a $500 gadget; load the software in your Mac and off you go. Gone are the days of large format cameras, light sensitive paper and developer chemicals. I don’t miss them (much). Ansel Adams is probably turning in his grave.
